5. Why is the theory of evolution so important in understanding how human beings behave?
The theory of evolution and natural selection are very important in understanding how humans behave. Charles Darwin said “Psychology will be based on a new foundation, that of the necessary acquirement of each mental power and capacity by gradation” evolutionary psychology offers great insight into human behavior. Consciousness has given human beings an evolutionary advantage over many other species, humans can dream, imagine, and play multiple scenarios out in their head without consequence. This gives humans a “better chance of living if you have already played out (internally, but not externally) competing strategies. According to the DNA of consciousness “if consciousness arose at least to some small measure as a predictor of how to react to future but unknown event, then it must error on the side of caution. Otherwise, if awareness was adventurous whatever advantages it gained would be prematurely lost with one bad outcome.” Assuming that bad outcome was death, that person would not have passed on that DNA, but the more cautious would have. Human consciousness has been passed down through evolution. Natural selection has narrowed down what consciousness has been passed down.
6. Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer?
How did life originate without intelligent design? When did the laws of nature first come into effect? How did sex/gender enter into the picture?
