1. Why is understanding physics and the general rules of the universe so important in doing philosophy?
knowing of Philosophy is very abstract, so people need discover and understand it by using other relates. Philosophy is revolve around with the universe, and by understanding the universe people should know physics (atoms, electrons...) and general rules of it. In the video " Electric Surfing," it animated and explained how the entire universe is composed of matter which is by central of understanding eccentricities. The universe is fully with electric firing. In science, matter isn't just matter, it is made by atoms. Atoms are balanced because it has positive charged proton and negative charged electrons with equal number. Matter itself a construct a theoretical math in order to make sense. The way of describing forces and matter is atoms to earth. In the video, " Quantum Uncertainty: Einstein Doesn't Gamble," it says, "Einstein new quantum mechanics as defined by Heisenberg &Bohr was mistaken, and incomplete theory that individual events cannot be predicted. The development of quantum mechanism gave thinkers alternatives to bound possibilities, proposing a model for a universe that follows general rules but never had a predetermined future.
2. What is eliminative materialism? Provide three examples of it.
Eliminative materialism is is the foundation of all subjects that replacing inexplicable explanations (the gods or spirits). As a phenomenon cannot be explained by math, it would turn to physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, sociology, and finally, philosophy. If none of academic disciplines (for instance, mathematics, physics, chemistry, etc.) can explain it, we finally admit “God did it”. For example, we no longer cure the diseases by casting out the evils; instead we cure diseases in a scientific way. In ancient time, people tended to think that the evils possessed one’s body so one was sick. Now, we use medicines to cure diseases because we have studied human body. Eliminative materialism is a materialist position in the philosophy mind. For example, four hundred years ago, people did not understand anything about human brains, there was no language. People were using all the subjects together, mixed all science as a whole, but knowledge is knowledge which would never change as time goes by. The first primary of Eliminative materialism is that "people's common-sense understanding, knowledge of mind is false and certain classes of mental states that most people believe in do not exist."(Wikipedia) There is more than one path to find the answers behind the surface. But when people could not realize what they have seen it is only the surface, they tend to come up with mysterious theory about the truth. Sometimes we saw there is shadow on the moon, and people thought it is because someone was living there. Later on, scientists observed the moon through telescopes, and they found out the surface of the moon is not flat.
