One question that evolution theory cannot explain is why human beings are the only species to become self-aware and develop a conscious mind. Through evolution the human species were able to develop consciousness but many other living species that were around as this evolution was happening did not evolve as advanced as human beings did. Environment plays a big role in evolution because one must adapt and be able to live in their surroundings. In the book Animal Minds by Donald L. Griffin, he says “Must we reject, or repress, any suggestion that the chimpanzees or the herons think consciously about the tasty food they manage to obtain by these coordinated actions?” Maybe other animals in a way are self-aware but just not as advance as human beings are. These other animals may still be going through the evolution of their consciousness and may one day be more self-aware than they are now.
