Why is the theory of evolution so important in understanding how human beings behave? The theory of evolution is important in understanding how human beings behave because human beings are the species they are today due to evolution. Many factors play a role in how a human being looks, behaves and how long they may live. In Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, he states “The offspring, also, will thus have a better chance of surviving, for, of the many individuals of any species which are periodically born, but a small number can survive.” The offspring will have a better chance of survival because it had inherited genes that have also survived. Not every species have survived like the human beings have so this is why evolution plays such a large part in species that are still alive. Evolution isn’t just physical appearance. It’s also important in the evolution of our consciousness which has given humans the ability to think and make decisions that will only better out survival.
