Im sorry for me posting late, but I have been sick lately.
1.Why was Socrates sentenced to death?
A:Socrates was a great Greek Philosopher; also known that he was one of the founders of the Western Philosophy. Socrates was sentenced to death because of two reasons. Socrates did not believe in the gods that were placed be the state. In the dialogue, between Euthyphro and Socrates it can be noticed that Socrates does not really know the person that has sentenced or prosecuted him to death, but he did know of the reason why he was being prosecuted, he also knows his name, which is Melitus. In the time, Socrates was believed to corrupting young man. Socrates says, “He says that I am a poet or maker of gods, and that I invent new gods and deny the existence of old ones; this is the ground of his indictment.” Socrates during the trial was found guilty and sentenced to death. Socrates was given the chance to escape from prison with the help of his followers but he refused. Socrates drank the Hemlock poison and was slowly dying. Socrates took the poison and not the escape because he wanted to serve justice and not ruin the system even more.
2. Why is there a conflict (for some) between science and religion?
A:There is certainly a conflict between the science and religion. The conflicts come in different situations. As the book “The Great Mystery” says that conflict is there when trying to define the word Matter. The origin of the word religion comes from “religio”, which is Latin and means an obligation or a bond. As the word science also is from a Latin word, which is “scire”, which means to know. From the words, conflicts of the ideology of words come up but that is not the only conflict. Science is used as a way to prove things whether it is live on mars, existence of a god, Etc. Science uses lots facts to prove a thing whereas religion is based on faith. When you have science that cannot prove religion there is a big conflict because some people want to see and not fall into blind faith. There are also conflicts when religion says something and science says another thing. An example of this can be some religion saying that there are no living beings aside on in this universe but science says that there is evidence that they have visited this planet some time long ago.
