What is eliminative materialism?
Eliminative materialism is a process that is used to explain and try to understand questions we have in different subjects. For example, in the film Eliminative Materialism part 1, Eliminative materialism is said to be the most promising way to tackle the subject of consciousness. As said in the video, "if the phenomena can not be explained fully and comprehensively with mathematics, the one turns to physics. If that too is incomplete, then to chemistry, then to biology, then to psychology, then to sociology". Another example is part 2 of the video, the video talks about early theories in astronomy, medicine, and physics being replaced by new and more accurate theories. "Instead of talking about Thor, the thunder god, he talked instead about electrical magnetic currents. Thus instead of talking about spirits as the causes of diseases, we talk about bacteria..." My final example comes from the third part of lee unitive materialism. The video states "as immaterialistic explanations evolve over time, it will either eliminate or reduce inexplicable phenomenon down from the celestial region to the empirical region."

Hello Terenceip91, after watching the three part film, I begin to think about other things that were not mentioned in the films that may have experienced a sudden change in how were perceived these occurrences. For example, it was thought that the Greek god Poseidon was responsible for creating new land, calming the seas, and even caused the earth to shake. Disciplines such as Geology have eliminated these ideologies. It is common knowledge that volcanic activity plays a big role in the creation of new land, and tectonic plates are responsible for earthquakes.
