Through the poetic book the Life of Pythagoras, the great Pythagoras is depicted as someone who was admired by his wisdom as a philosopher with great knowledge in mathematics, and values that were compared to those of divine and respected by the elders of his time. “Consider as the most wisdom and beautiful child ever to be born. As a youth he was considered venerable and his habits so temperate that he was honored and even reverenced by elderly men.” (Book Life of Pythagoras). It is say in the book that he was mostly a vegetarian who took great care for his body, which allowed him to be ready for all the endeavors of everyday life. “He abstains entirely from wine and animal food, avoiding greediness, confining himself to nutriments of easy preparation and digestion. As a result, his sleep was short; his soul pure and vigilant, and the general health of his body was invariable.” (Book; Life of Pythagoras). I understand from this poetic book the depiction of Pythagoras life as one of some one with passion for knowledge, who enjoyed passing on his knowledge to others. Through out his life, it was say, that he traveled to Egypt, and to Italy, were he gained knowledge, which he preached to his disciples under strict requirements. “He did studies in Egypt and Babylonia; Astronomy and geometry. He also studied and completed arithmetic, music, and all the other sciences. After twelve years, about the fifty-sixth year of his age, he returned to Samos.“ (Book; Life of Pythagoras) He influenced the built of the temple of Muses were he passes on his wisdom to his followers and disciples of his doctrines.
Pythagoras passion for knowledge, teaching, and his wisdom attracts many disciples that nurture his teachings and whom are then known as the Pythagoreans. Pythagoras wisdom and his life of teachings, it has been a profound expression of Philosophy throughout times.
