1. Why was Socrates sentenced to death?
Socrates was accused that he had corrupted Athenian youth by his teachings, and did not believe in gods recognized by the State. He gave very persuasive statements to support himself. Socrates’ trial and death together form an iconic moment in Western civilization.Socrates’ strong apology for himself didn’t convince the judge and jury although this can possibly reject what Meletus accused. He was sentenced to death by drink the poison, hemlock. Although Socrates knew that he was innocent, he still accepted the punishment because he believed those evil people who accused him would get even more harsh punishment than him, and he believed that his soul would go to another world. This refers to his philosophy. I believe that Socrates’ wisdom was one of the reasons why he was sentenced to death.
