Question #1: Socrates was accused of being an atheist and corrupting the youth with his philosophies, which caused him to be sentenced to death. His philosophy was to question everything to find the truth. He would question men who were known to have some type of wisdom, and by doing just that it came to light that he was wiser than them. Socrates never claimed to know what he did not know. Socrates taught his students to be critical thinkers and to ask questions not just accept what answer is given to them they, have to dig in and test things to get the answer. The court found it to be so corrupting of the youth. It was not something that happen often so he was put on trial and given the death sentence. He gave his life for his principles, he took poison as his punishment.
Question #2: Many feel that their own religious tradition is true, as to science and all other faiths are artificial and flawed beliefs. people that have strong religious beliefs refuse to understand scientific theories, and people who have strong scientific belief's refuse to understand religious beliefs. Science and religion both address the same world, They both impact how we understand and live in our world. The scientific method is a on going cycle of question, hypothesis, testing, data analysis, conclusion, and repetition. As to religion addresses empirical truths, experiential, emotional, and moral truths. Many believe that science gives us fact as to religion gives us opinions. They both are independent of each other and attempt to describe and throw light upon reality.
