Question : why was Socrates sentenced to death?
Socrates was asked if there were anyone wiser than he so he set out to find out what it means to be wise and if there were anyone wiser than he. He went to the politicians and poets and came to the conclusion that neither of them were wiser than he, but the difference was that they claimed to be wise and Socrates didn't. That is when he believed the two charges that sentenced him to death were made. One being that he "acts unjustly in currupting the youth" (36). He defends himself by saying that if he really had corrupted the youth, then they would've realized that he'd given them bad advice by the time they had grown. The second being that he does not believe in the gods. He argues by saying how can one believe in demons and not gods because the demons were "sons" of gods. On page 2 it says "on several instances he conformed to the religious customs of his country and that he believes in god more than he fears man".
