1. Explain the virtual simulation theory of consciousness.
The virtual simulation theory of consciousness is a theory that our consciousness is a virtual simulator. Just as in the movie "The Matrix", Neo is living in a virtual reality, a world completely made up in his mind. This is a big advantage for humans over animals and other beings, having consciousness means you can play out different decisions in your mind as if they are real and chose the best one. As in the video "Brain Burn", "Those without consciousness don't have this liberty, and thus when they do play out a choice, they do so in a real world, and in such a real world, if it doesn't work you are eaten". Being able to make these decisions and mock up different reactions to decisions in our head makes us far more superior to other who do not. As stated in fragment 52 of "Consciousness as a Virtual Simulator", "Any reproducing DNA that can develop a virtual simulator within itself has a huge advantage over a genetic strand that cannot. Awareness is poker self-reflective. Chance giving itself better odds".
2. How does the brain trick us and for what benefit is it for our genetic survival?
The brain tricks us different ways. One is our virtual realities, such as dreams that we believe to be so real, until we wake up and realize that it was only an illusion. This doesn't only happen when we are sleeping, but when we are awake as well. We might see something happen and believe it happened one way, and until we take a closer look we realize that it didn't really happen at all and it was just an illusion. This can be very beneficial to us because by having these illusions in our head we don't have to act on everything we think. We can put together scenarios in our head, and act them out to make the right decision. By acting out different decisions in out head it gives us an advantage. Instead of only getting one chance to get something right, we get multiple chances and only have to act once due to our virtual conciseness.
