Question 1: Do you think artificial intelligence will be a significant problem in the future?
If strict rules and guidelines are not put into place or followed, artificial intelligence may become a significant problem in the future. Artificial intelligence is defined as the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence. According to the short film Alan Turing, one of Turing’s greatest desires was to have a computer’s ability to communicate to be indistinguishable from a human’s. This in and of itself is not bad, however, if taken further than that, then there may be significant problems. If in addition to communicating like humans computers are programmed to think like humans and act like humans, then a possible terminator scenario-- where technology becomes its own master and does what it wants-- becomes is entirely plausible. However, as long as artificial intelligence is handled with the utmost care and respect, then it will likely be extremely beneficial to mankind in the future. If anybody is in doubt of this all they would have to do is look at how much of a positive impact the internet has had.
Question 2: How has technology impacted your life?
Technology has had a huge impact on my life. For like almost everybody else in my generation, I rely on it daily to do even the simplest of tasks. For instance, I use a car to travel; a phone to communicate; a computer and the internet to learn; a refrigerator, stove and microwave to eat; and a fan or heater to stay warm or cool. I rely on technology so heavily that I cannot fathom a life without it because it is so integrated into my life, which now that I think about it is not a good thing. While technology is great, relying solely on it to survive can have adverse consequences. For instance, if technology was taken away in, say, a war, then I don’t think many people would know how to survive. I doubt people who rely on fast food and groceries stores for the meals will know how to hunt and preserve food, or people who rely on Google for answers would know what to do in complicated situations. In all, though technology has had a huge impact on my life, in light of this question, I don’t think it’s impact is all positive.
