The brain can trick us in various ways. We may see an object a different color than what it really is and we can be tricked into believing something is real when actually it is not real at all. These are all tricks that our mind can have on us. The Color of an object we look at can change depending on the light. In the book Cerebral Mirage, the author looks at the ocean and notices that its typical blue color looks different as shown here “the other day, I remarked to my oldest son, Shaun, that the ocean water around Catalina Island looked exceptionally blue. But, given his deep knowledge of science, my son responded that such “blueness” was actually not in the water at all, but how different light waves get absorbed and refracted.” He saw the ocean a different color blue not because the color actually changed but because how the brain interpreted the different light waves a different color. The tricks caused by our brain are also used for survival. If we see danger that may not be there or if we exert caution because of something our brain is letting us see then we have taken ourselves out of harms way.

Hi Joseph,
I agree with you that we can always see objects differently than others. A good example I can think of is when everyone was going crazy about the dress. People were arguing saying that they saw black and blue while others swore they saw white and gold. I knew that there were two dresses with those colors, not just one, but people still continued to argue what they see.

Hi Joseph, your idea is right. For example, sometimes we looked up at the clock, why is there the phenomenon that the second hand to stop? In fact, that is the brain deceive us in order to allow us to see a coherent world. The feature is great significance for us, and side effects, but we occasionally inadvertently can find, and not cause too big effect to our daily life.

hello joseph! isn't it funny on how the brain could play tricks on us simply from simply a "different" color? I really liked how you brought your own personal life into this it really does show another perspective on this topic into a better understanding. Isn't it crazy that the ocean's blueness is really not the water itself but really just the sky's reflection literally deception at its finest if you ask me.
