In the book, “Cerebral Mirage”, it states that one of the most significant discoveries of modern science is that the world we perceive around us is not as it appears. The brain tricks us by creating illusions in our mind. Also, a good example used in the book was about Shaun’s discovery that the ocean water is not really blue, but it is just the different types of lighting in the waves. We all say it is blue though because of our mind tricking us seeing the illusions. The water is actually clear, but because of the wavelengths of light such as red, orange, and yellow, you get the wavelengths of blue. The world is an illusion, but it is nothing new to us as this actually dates back to the beginning of human civilization. Plato’s allegory of the cave is one of the great examples of how nature is enlightened or unenlightened.
