Explain the virtual simulation theory of consciousness.
Virtual simulation theory of consciousness states that consciousness provides humans with the opportunity to simulate the available options before externally experiencing them, thus giving humans an evolutionary advantage in survival. From this perspective, consciousness is not the result of meditation or the product of an ontological experience, but the process and wiring of the neurons in our brain to fit humans for better chances of survival. As stated in the book, “Is Universe an App,” “consciousness is a fantastic virtual simulator and because of its inclusivity and insular engineering it has an inherent tendency to believe its own machinations as exterior to itself and not as the byproduct of its own interiority. Indeed, we are often easily duped by what is presented to us, no matter whether it is the “blue sky” or the “user interface” of social network, but such illusion, according to virtual simulation theory, might not be at our disadvantages, for it intends to help us to survival longer. Thanks to development in science and neurology, we might be able to dig into the deep from the surface and find out the real mechanisms behind the phenomena.

I agree that the ability for humans to simulate different outcomes and options have given us a great advantage in surviving. I feel that many species have become extinct because they were not able to process and simulate events like the humans were. This made humans able to avoid simple dangers and threats and have led to the survival of human beings.

Hi Zheng,
I agree with you stating that consciousness is not the result of meditation, but more for survival. I like how you explained that the illusions we tend to see such as the blue sky is what helps us to survive longer. I think it is interesting to know that these are illusions that help us survive. I would never think that such illusions are helpful to us.

Hey Zheng,
I have been thinking of the quote you used in your response. Because we are unaware that we produce all of the manifestations "outside of us", we are tricked into thinking they are real. Although the trickery has the purpose to protect us, it also harms us from knowing our true selves and power in ourselves to create our own reality. In a sense, I believe that not being tricked by the mind is more powerful and evolutionarily advantageous because if we become aware that we create our own reality, then we will harness that power and have control of our world to our advantage. We will fear less because we will realize there is nothing to fear and we will take more chances and opportunities knowing we have complete control.
