2. What is Eliminative Materialism? Give 3 examples.
Eliminative Materialism is a complex subject where when one phenomenon cannot be explained or fully understood through the workings of mathematics, then one must turn to the workings of physics, and then to chemistry, then to biology, then to psycology, then to sociology, to find the answer they may be looking for. If for some reason they are unable to find the answer, then they find it perfectly acceptable to just say, “well, God did it”(NeuralSurfer Part One). One example of Eliminative Materialism is the human nervous system, because to find out exactly how it operates in our bodies, scientists had to use eliminative materialism to get to the answer of their question. Another example is all different types of viruses. They had to use biology, chemistry, mathematics, and other types of ways to find out where the viruses had come from or what they are made of and what is able to stop them. One last example of Eliminative Materialism is Thor, the thunder god, which after going into more depth, we realized by eliminative materialism that it is not supernatural powers that he has or that are within the hammer, but that it is just electromagnetic currents that create the energy for Thor to perform with his hammer.
